People Power

Informal Theme # 8
Blog # 8

Filipinos have experienced the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos twenty-five years ago, but it was ended by means of a revolution and showed the “People Power”.

People Power Revolution, it marked the restoration of the Philippines’s democracy. This EDSA Anniversary is very significant to each and every one of the Filipinos since our country became free because of this. The day of the commemoration of this anniversary is a holiday because we all need to celebrate that great day.

Everything was set. The commemoration of People Power will be happening this coming Friday, February 25, 2011.  The venue, the flow of the event, and everything were prepared. There are also policemen who’ll take charge of the security of the said event. Everyone was welcome and invited to join the commemoration.

As part of the celebration, there will also be a photo exhibit. The photos will be displayed in a particular place in Tamuning. The exhibit will be available to the public beginning Tuesday and will remain up through Feb. 28.

“The Philippines has come a long way since 1986. We regained our freedom, national pride, and will to get the country growing. Somewhere along the way, we became complacent. People Power gained a partisan meaning which started to divide the nation once again.”— President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

Happy Hearts' Day!

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.” – William Shakespeare

February, the month of hearts, is one of the most awaited months of many people, specially, for lovers. When it’s February, it doesn’t really matter if you are in a relationship or single, what matters most is that you value the essence of love. Everyone can take this opportunity to send their deepest love to someone they adore or to someone who’s special to them.

Last February 14, I felt like it’s just a normal day since there’s no program in our school. I just greeted my classmates and schoolmates a Happy Valentine’s Day. I can see a lot of students sending their gifts to their special friends and I can see that they are really happy. After recess, I was shocked when someone gave me a gift and a flower. I really don’t know what I would feel after receiving the gift so I just thanked him. When I went to my locker to get my things, I saw something in there that made me jump. It was a cute little Blue Magic bear. There’s no indication of who the sender was so I have no idea who to thank. I told my best friend about it and she was happy for me. After few minutes, we can see a woman approaching our building with roses and huge balloons. Everyone was laughing because the girls were telling that it’s theirs. I was so surprised when the woman stated my name and asked who I am. I went nearer to her and she gave me a rose with the huge balloons. I asked her who sent it but she refused to answer my question. Everyone in the room was giving a deafening shout and so I can’t think of anything to do for them to stop. 3 amazing gifts, it’s awesome and I’ll treasure it.

That normal day turns out to be wonderful day, I felt great. I’m grateful that there are persons who treat me a special one. Thank God for an awesome day.

Dear Ma’am May,

Before anything else, I would like to greet you a belated happy birthday! I know that we, the students made you happy that day and we surprised you. Although we have given you a simple gift, I know that it meant a lot to you. We thank you for being a nice teacher, friend, and mentor to us. We’re thankful to be your students.

Anyway, my birthday is coming! I want you to come over here on my birthday. We’ve known each other for about three years but still, I haven’t invited you to go here in our house. We’ll be having a party here on my birthday so I guess I’ll invite also the SALIW. I guess that would be great. I hope all of you can come!

Take care and may God bless you.

Your student,

Maryel C. Villegas

First-timers

Pantomime is a play in which the performers express themselves mutely by gestures, often to the accompaniment of music.

Before the performance day, everybody cooperated. We’re having our rehearsals during our free time. Everyone is sharing their ideas, we have overflowing ideas already that we really don’t know how to fit that all in. We put a lot of effort in making the pantomime and to make it beautiful. The sound effects were all set and one of my classmates will operate it while the play was going on. We don’t have any costume, we just used out P.E. uniforms.

Everything was set, everyone’s quiet. Then the play begins. I can feel that all of my classmates are enjoying including me. We really enjoyed the whole play because it’s so funny. We can’t control ourselves not to laugh. There are parts which are not that clear but it’s alright. Background music helped a lot because we’re not using speeches or we do not speak. Everyone did their best to make this pantomime the best!

I can’t really say that we have performed a good pantomime since Ma’am May is quite disappointed about what we did. We’re supposed to make it a comedy play but our piece is so serious that comedy isn’t fitted to it. We did everything to make it a comedy but it didn’t work. If she hasn’t read the synopsis, she really can’t get what we want to say. She said that we enjoyed so much that we forgot to make the appropriate ones. It’s really funny with Emmanuel in there but our piece didn’t fit, it’s too serious. We're just first-timers so we’re not expecting a high grade but it’s alright as long as everyone enjoyed and everyone was happy.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

“Follow you dreams”, a very popular quotation from him.  “I’m a small town kid who never imagined this happening to me – but it did, and it can for you too.” He keeps on telling that to his fans. Justin Bieber is not only a great singer; he has lots of talents like playing other instruments and dancing. If you’ll look at him, you’ll say, “What can this boy do?” For me, he’s really amazing. He never let his fans down. He loves his fans so much and treats them as his new friends. I learned not to be boastful even if you already have everything. He’s so down to earth. He never forgets where he came from and never forgets to thank those people behind his success.

“Young people can make a difference”. Justin inspires more kids to follow his footsteps. After every success he’s achieving, he never forgets to thank God. He shares his blessings to everyone, like charities and others. I learned that young people like me, us, can also make a difference, a difference which can help other people, save other’s lives.

“Family is always a top priority.” Family is so important to Justin. He still has a close relationship with his mom, who raised him almost all by herself for most of his 16 years, and spends as much time as he can with his father and his father’s family, especially half-sister, Jazmyn and half-brother, Jaxon. They may not always see eye to eye, but Justin and his mom are as close as ever.

“Best thing in the world is great friends who remind you where you came from.” Despite his insane fame, sudden fortune, and jampacked schedule, Justin still makes sure his best pals from back home get to tag along for the ride when they can.

Live your dreams. Do whatever you can do fulfill your goals in life. Never forget where you came from and the people behind every success. Justin Bieber really has changed my principles in life. He has changed lots of stuffs about me. I learned many things from him and hopefully, my dreams will come true. Dreams do come true.

“I’m never gonna change because I have people that love me for me.” – Justin Bieber

Words of Wisdom

All things come and go. You meet new people, you learn new things. Some people will stay in your mind and leave a mark in your heart and some won’t. There is a one particular person who has made a mark in both my mind and heart, Mrs. Mildred Climacosa-Atendido or simply Ma’am May.

“The best preparation for tomorrow is to do today’s work superbly well”.

This quotation from Sir William Osler reminds me of Ma’am May a lot. She thought us many wonderful things and I can never forget all those things she has told us. I know all of those can help me fulfilling my goals in life.  These are the some of the things I learned from her.

Time is gold. Actually this has lots of meanings but I think for her, this means that we shouldn’t waste our time for nonsense things. We should do our tasks as early as possible, I mean, for example, when we have a project, we should make it few days before the due date and not on the exact day when we need to pass it. We should spend our leisure times doing something functional.

We always have a choice.  Whenever we say that we don’t have a choice, she’ll always say that we have a choice. We can just say such words because we’re just anxious for what may be the result after picking that choice. We are afraid to face the consequences if we chose that. All we need to do is to admit the fact and accept anything that will happen.

Attitude is very important. Yes, you are beautiful, rich, and intelligent, but your attitude is freaking bad! We know that attitude is very important because no matter how many awards and certificates you get, you’ll still be remembered by your attitude. If you’re beautiful but you have a very bad trait, I think no one will like you because attitude comes first for most of the people.

Ma’am May inspired me a lot. I learned many brilliant things from her and I promise that I’ll never forget all those things. She has left a big mark on my heart and she’ll always be remembered. I just wanna thank her for everything she has done to us and especially to me.
